I’ve actually watched the first 9 episodes on a recommendation from a friend (whom I watched this with initially). If you can get over the funny imagery of gigantic naked titan “human-like” beasts rampaging all over Japan then you might get a kick out of it. The action is quite frenetic and the imagery is pretty interesting but the sameness of the plot did start to become tiring after episode 4-5.

I haven’t returned to it in a few months, mind you but I do recall that the series took itself far too seriously. I’m now more into Anime’s which are somewhat laid back but contain a more atmospheric paranormal theme like Ghost Hound or Mushishi. Surround sound is almost required to fully enjoy these. I’m glad more people are concerned by Jay’s (in particular) reluctance to watch end credits. Truly problematic behavior.

I wish he would rectify that. It would save us from a lot of embarrasing moments, like in the 12 YEARS A SLAVE review where Jay goes on about how much the score sounded like Hans Zimmer for 15 minutes, then stops and asks “who did the score?” to which Frank replies Hans Zimmer. If Jay bothered to read credits this unfortunate moment never would have occurred. That might be another reason one should watch the closing credits btw. It kills me that whenever Jay watches TOP GUN and the credits starts with Cheap Trick’s ‘Mighty Wings’ (potentially the best song on the soundtrack) Jay quickly pushes the stop button and goes to the bathroom.
